Default How to avoid fraud on international order?

Is there a way to take this order without taking a big chance?

We have a large order shipping to Indonesia which some of you report is a high fraud risk area. I am trying to decide whether to accept the order which is just under a $1,000. The bill to and ship to address are the same:
malang, jatim 33330
Indonesia

It is an AE charge which has been approved. The IP address is from the area.

What can we do to make sure it is not a stolen card? I have the form some of you recommended which requires a copy of the card and their driver's license. I plan to request that they complete it. I will also confirm that the phone number and email address is valid. Is this enough? We would have no resource on this order if it turns out to be a scam. Are there other alternatives? Can we just ship it COD through the shipper? Once we get the funds from the shipper, then we credit their card for the previous charge. In that case we would still have to pay the shipping charge even if the shipment were rejected.
Thanks joeyf

I had an order yesterday also from Indonesia for over 1000 usd - I deleted it straight away - Personally i would highly reccomend you don't ship the order, but thats my personal opinion. Armani watch, engagement ring and a pendant in one order i got - Its got fraud plastered all over it.

I'd avoid it unless you can verify for sure it is not a stolen card. Unfortunately the ship to address and bill to address even though they are the same does not verify the card. Orders from Indonesia are normally fraud orders and most of the time are for orders over $200.00. If it is a visa/master card or whatever I would see about contacting visa directly they may be able to help. We did this once and they checked the number it was a card holder in the USA but was shipping out of the country. We voided the order.

Default AMEX card verification

International Verification - 011.8133.220.6100
Card Verification: 800.528.2121

Verify that the bill to address matches the card. They will also give you the phone number for the issuing bank. Most international banks will speak english.

I would not ship this order.

99.99999% of orders from Indonesia are fraudulent. Address Verification Service (AVS) does not work in Indonesia so the billing address in the order might not be (probably is not) the same as what the CC company has on file.

Regardless, if this international customer decides he "never received" or "did not order" the product he can charge it back - and you will lose every time.

That's my $0.02 anyway...

Hi,
You didnt indicate what types of goods or services you provide. If its stuff like jewelry, with a high resale value, its more than likely this is a fraudulent order. Its such a poor country that its unlikely someone will have $1,000 available to buy something abroad.

See if the customer is willing to send you an international moeny order drawn on a US bank. If so, wait until it clears your bank before shipping. Otherwise, you're just kidding yourself into thinking this order wont get red flagged by the credit card companies.

We are interest to purchase some of your product from your company for our new branch office in Singapore. But first of all, please answer some of my question bellow.

1. Do you have ability ship world wide to Singapore ?
2. Do you have abi;ity to ship using Fedex, UPS or DHL express ?
3. Do you have ability to accept Credit Card for payment purpose ?

Please send me a copy of your current catalog showing the price list of your product. I hope to hear from you soon.

Your Faithfully,

Some of these countries that are notorious for fraud have other problems altogether. No only are there people there trying to commit fraud, but there is so much corruptions that you can't get insurance through any shipping company because of the corruption and theft in the customs offices. NO SHIPPING COMPANY THAT I KNOW OF WILL INSURE A PACKAGE TO NIGERIA. You might want to check and see if the shipping company you are planning on using will even insure a package to Indonesia.

I wouldn't ship the order. I look at it this way - the fraud rate from there is too high and if your out the product, shipping charges, charge back charges, etc... how much do you stand to lose vs. how much do you stand to gain (your profit)? Keep in mind that this isn't the only customer out there.

You could have the customer in Indonesia send a Wire Transfer to your bank in the USA. Some effort on their part and if they are serious and able to pay, it should be no problem. I definitely would not take a credit card.

My .02 worth.

Default fraudulent order

100% this is a fraudulent order. Save yourself the time and hassle and just cancel the order. Tell the customer that you only accept gold boullion as payment and that you don't deal with fraudulent customers. If they contact you again, they "might" be for real. If not, you got out a little frustration and flushed out the fakers..
