In the configuration tab under general variables. If you can't find it hit search and type Config_Enable_Back_In_Stock_Requests as the data name.

How does this work? I have this option enabled but since we have so many seasonal styles (clothes) we have all of our products set to 'hide when out of stock'.
There are some items (skincare) that we regularly order and although we don't want to allow backorders we would still like them to show up when out of stock and allow customers to get an email when we get it back in. Thanks in advance. |

When you set a product to hide when out of stock, it does just that. When you set it to not allow backorders but remain visible, the "email me" link appears when your stock on that item hits zero or a negative number. When you add inventory so that stock status is a positive number, the link disappears and emails are sent out automatically to everyone who signed up.
We love this feature and we use it all the time when customers call in and ask to be notified. Instead of telling them to go do it, we say "Would you like us to send you an email when we get it back in stock again?" Then we go to the front end for that item and sign up with their email address. Super easy and they love the quality customer service. |
