Not sure if this is how this can be done, but let's say my category page for puppy pads is currently http://www.mednetdirect.com/Puppy-Pa...Care-s/106.htm but for an ad, we would like it to be something simple like www.mednetdirect.com/puppy - is that done with a redirect? If yes, then how would I set that up, if not, then I'm open to suggestions on how to accomplish this.

Go to SETTINGS>MAINTENANCE

Click the "Manage 301 Redirects" link

In the Source Path column, enter

/puppy

In the Target Path column, enter the name of the file you want customers to see.

Thanks Phil. This should hopefully do it. We're going to run an ad, and may go with this route, or use a unique domain like www.puppy-pad.com that we just picked up..etc..
