They were likely using the site to test cards to find which ones work...then they move on to buy other stuff at other online retailers.

Or sometimes the fraudsters will purchase a slew of domain names and hosting with the stolen card. Then, they use the domains and hosting to set up communications...like private forums and such to share, trade, and sell stolen identity and cc information. These sites usually have a harmless fake home page...but there is a back door address to get to the private forum.

Before anyone catches up with them, they will buy another set of hosting/domain packages and move their operations.

Default We had this happen

one day 15 cards used until 1 worked. I simply called the number and verified the card was not theirs. Funny thing is, he ordered 150 of the same product (nobody would order more than 2) and the order total was just shy of $10,000. Calling Visa would have been a waste of my time so I canceled the transaction prior to batching before realizing what I just did....I just verified the card for 10 grand for the guy!

Ive had people try to use stolen cc's. Not that many at once. But if I suspect something, you can call visa, mc, amex or discover, which ever card they are using, you type in the card number to get the phone number to who the card issuer is, then call and let them know you are a merchant and need to check a card. They can tell you if the name is authorized and if the address etc match.

Im surprised how often people try to use a cc and dont even use the name or address listed on the account.

Document everything you do to verify the card. If you end up taking the card and it goes thru, later get a charge back, you can fight the charge back by showing you researched the situation and it seemed ok..

But go by your gut, bottom line, its not worth getting a charge back and taking the loss..

Default On going

Since 5/16 we had the same guy try 52 times with 52 different credit cards to order $209 to $3600 worth of merchandise. We use Authorize.net. We have our security set high, meaning that the billing address must match the billing address on the credit card. So far none have been approved. The IP address is all over the map, from Israel, Ohio and Nigeria.

We always treat multiple declines as a red flag on orders. On our one page check out we have a note listed on top

For your security, please enter your billing address as it appears on your credit card statement. An error may cause a decline in your credit card.

Most of our legit customers see this and get it right.
